Garden Rooms Greenwich

Garden rooms crafted for Greenwich’s heritage homes and riverside setting. Garden Office Buildings brings over twenty years of local expertise to SE10.

Greenwich is one of London’s most iconic neighbourhoods, and the properties here range from Grade II listed Georgian townhouses on Crooms Hill, described by Nikolaus Pevsner as the pride of domestic architecture in Greenwich, to handsome Victorian terraces, Edwardian semis, and modern riverside apartments near the Peninsula. If you have a garden in SE10, a bespoke garden room is a superb way to add functional space while respecting the character of your surroundings.

We are a family company based in Biggin Hill, and Greenwich has been one of our core areas since 2004. We understand the sensitivities of building in a World Heritage Site buffer zone and conservation areas, and we will always advise on whether planning consent is needed for your specific property. Most garden rooms fall within permitted development rights, but we never make assumptions.

Pop into our showroom to see the build quality for yourself. Every structure uses proper insulated timber frames, high-specification double glazing, and durable cladding. These are buildings designed to last decades, not just a few seasons.

Our buildings and prices page provides transparent pricing. We always begin with a free site visit to measure your garden and discuss your requirements in person.

Garden Gym, Greenwich

A maritime lawyer working at Canary Wharf wanted a home gym to break up long desk-bound days. He lived in a four-bedroom Victorian semi on Westcombe Park Road with a 17-metre rear garden that backed onto the Westcombe Woodlands. We designed a 5m x 3.5m gym positioned to take advantage of the views into the woodland, with full-height glazing on the rear elevation and a more private solid wall facing the neighbouring gardens.

The interior includes a combination squat rack and bench press, a plate-loaded leg press, a set of adjustable dumbbells, and a Wattbike for cardio. We installed rubber matting with a 15mm thickness to handle dropped weights, and added a wall-mounted Sonos system connected to the house Wi-Fi. A single split-system air conditioning unit manages temperature year round, which is essential given how much heat high-intensity training generates in an insulated space.

He uses the gym every evening after commuting home from the Wharf and says it has become a vital part of his daily routine. His wife has started using the space for morning yoga, and their teenage son trains there at weekends. The building’s position at the garden’s end, with its woodland backdrop, makes it feel far more secluded than its SE10 location would suggest.

Garden Office, Greenwich

An architect with her own small practice needed a proper drawing studio separate from the family home. Her Georgian townhouse on Crooms Hill had a walled rear garden of about 14 metres, and any building needed to be sympathetic to the listed property and the conservation area setting. We built a Multi at 6.5m x 3.5m, with careful attention to the proportions, materials, and roofline to ensure it sat harmoniously within the historic garden walls.

The studio features a large north-facing window for consistent natural light, essential for drawing work, plus two additional side windows for cross-ventilation. Inside, there is a full-width drawing desk at standing height, a plan chest, a meeting table for client presentations, and a wall-mounted screen for 3D modelling reviews. We ran fibre-optic broadband and multiple ethernet points throughout the building.

She told us the studio has transformed her practice. Clients now visit the garden office for consultations and have repeatedly commented on the quality of the space. The building has integrated beautifully with the historic garden, and she said several neighbours on Crooms Hill have asked for our contact details after seeing the finished result from the lane.

    About Greenwich

Greenwich is a historic riverside district in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, famous for the Cutty Sark, the Royal Observatory, the National Maritime Museum, and the Old Royal Naval College. The town centre has a thriving independent high street, a covered market, and a strong cafe and restaurant scene. Greenwich Park, one of London’s royal parks, provides nearly 200 acres of green space with panoramic views over the Thames to Canary Wharf and the City. The housing stock is diverse, from grand Georgian townhouses and Victorian terraces in the centre to Edwardian semis around Westcombe Park and modern apartments on the Peninsula. The area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, lending it an architectural prestige that few London neighbourhoods can match.

Transport links are excellent. Greenwich station provides Southeastern services to London Bridge and Charing Cross, while Cutty Sark station on the DLR connects to Canary Wharf, Bank, and Lewisham. The Jubilee line at North Greenwich adds further connections. We also serve Blackheath, Charlton, Deptford, and Woolwich from our base in Biggin Hill.

    Visit Our Showroom

From Greenwich, our Biggin Hill showroom is around 30 minutes by car, heading south through Blackheath and Chislehurst on the A20 and A233. It is a pleasant drive and well worth the trip to see our Midi, Maxi, and Multi buildings in person before making any decisions.

“We needed a garden office that would not look out of place behind our period home in Greenwich. The showroom visit gave us confidence that this company understood quality and proportion. The Multi was installed beautifully and has been faultless. Highly recommended to any Greenwich homeowner.” — Oliver and Fiona, SE10
