Garden Rooms Richmond

Garden rooms crafted to complement Richmond’s distinguished period properties. Garden Office Buildings brings two decades of expertise to TW9 and TW10.

Richmond is one of London’s most sought after addresses, and with good reason. The Georgian and Victorian terraces climbing Richmond Hill, the rose clad cottages tucked along quiet lanes, and the sweeping grandeur of Richmond Park on the doorstep create a neighbourhood of genuine distinction. For homeowners with the outdoor space, a bespoke garden room from our team is a natural complement to a Richmond property, adding usable space without compromising the garden or the character of the home.

We are a family company based in Biggin Hill with over twenty years of experience building garden offices, studios, and gyms across South West London. Richmond gardens tend to be beautifully maintained with mature planting and established layouts, and we take that seriously. We will design a building that respects the existing landscape, uses materials that age gracefully, and meets the quality standards that Richmond homeowners rightly expect.

Visit our showroom to experience the build quality first hand. Every detail, from the thickness of the insulation to the grade of the glazing units, is designed for permanence. These are buildings that will serve you for decades.

Garden Gym, Richmond

A former professional rugby player, now working as a sports commentator, wanted a serious training space at his home near Richmond Green. He lived in a four bedroom Georgian townhouse with a walled rear garden approximately 15 metres deep. Despite the period setting, he wanted a contemporary gym that would allow him to maintain the conditioning he had built over his playing career. We designed a 5m x 4m build with a modern flat roof and western red cedar cladding that sits handsomely against the old brick garden walls.

Inside, we fitted heavy duty Olympic platform flooring, a full power cage, a wall mounted cable stack, and ceiling mounted gymnastics rings. The electrics include a 32 amp dedicated circuit for a commercial Wattbike, LED strip lighting with dimmer control, and a hardwired sound system. A high capacity extraction fan handles ventilation during intense sessions. The interior walls are finished in impact resistant plasterboard for durability.

He uses the gym six mornings a week and told us it has been essential for staying in shape through a busy broadcasting schedule. He has hosted training sessions for charity events in the space, and several of his neighbours around the Green have visited to see the build. We have since completed two further projects on nearby streets.

Garden Studio, Richmond

An architect running her own practice from a rented studio in Richmond town centre decided to bring her work home when her lease came up for renewal. She and her husband owned a Victorian semi on Queen’s Road with a long south west facing garden. We built a Multi at 7m x 4m, divided into a main design studio with space for two drawing desks and a pin up wall, and a smaller client meeting room separated by a glazed partition.

Natural light was paramount, so we installed full height glazing across the entire front elevation and three large roof lights. The studio faces the garden and catches afternoon light beautifully. We fitted CAT6 ethernet, a plotter alcove with dedicated power, and a plan chest along the rear wall. The meeting room has its own entrance from a small decked terrace, allowing clients to arrive without walking through the working studio.

She closed her town centre lease within a month of moving into the garden studio and says the saving on rent has more than covered the cost of the build over three years. The studio has become a talking point among her clients, several of whom have gone on to commission garden buildings for their own properties. She describes it as the best professional decision she has ever made.

    About Richmond

Richmond sits on the Thames in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, centred around a bustling town centre with over 100 independent and national retailers, fine restaurants, Richmond Theatre, and a vibrant cultural scene. The area’s architectural character is outstanding, from the Georgian splendour of properties along Richmond Hill and The Terrace, with their famous views over the Thames Valley, to the elegant Victorian and Edwardian family homes on quieter residential streets. Quaint rose clad cottages line the lanes around Richmond Green, one of London’s most beautiful public squares.

Richmond Park, the largest of the Royal Parks at 2,500 acres, provides an extraordinary natural backdrop with herds of deer, ancient woodlands, and sweeping views across London. Transport is excellent: Richmond station serves South Western Railway to Waterloo in 19 minutes, the District line, and London Overground. Buses connect to Kew, Twickenham, Barnes, and Ham. Properties typically feature well maintained gardens with mature planting, and the area’s premium market means that a high quality garden room adds meaningful value to a home. Richmond borders Kew, Barnes, and Twickenham, with Petersham and Ham to the south.
