Garden Rooms Surbiton

Garden rooms designed for Surbiton’s characterful Victorian homes and riverside setting. We’re a family company with over 1,000 builds across south London and Surrey.

Surbiton has a wonderful mix of period architecture and riverside charm, and it’s a fantastic area for garden room builds. The grand Victorian townhouses, Edwardian family homes, and distinctive Art Deco properties all tend to come with rear gardens that offer real potential for a bespoke garden building.

With fast trains to London Waterloo in as little as 19 minutes, Surbiton is hugely popular with professionals who split their working week between the office and home. A dedicated garden office means you can work in comfort and privacy without sacrificing any rooms in the main house. It’s a setup that works brilliantly for Surbiton’s busy, professional households.

Take a look at our buildings and prices, or come to our Biggin Hill showroom to see our garden rooms in person. We’ve been building bespoke garden offices, studios, and gyms since 2004, and we’d love to help you make the most of your garden.

Whether you’re in a Victorian terrace near the station or a detached house in the quieter streets towards Long Ditton, we’ll design a garden building that fits your space, your home, and your lifestyle perfectly.

Garden Gym, Surbiton

A barrister in Surbiton wanted a boxing and fitness gym in his garden so he could train before his morning commute to the Inns of Court. His Victorian semi-detached house had a 12-metre garden with mature boundary fencing, and we built a 5m x 3.5m garden gym with a reinforced ceiling mount for a heavy bag, speed ball platform, and a compact functional fitness area.

We installed high-density rubber flooring, a full-length mirror on the back wall, and a timer display mounted above the bag for round training. The ventilation system includes two high-capacity extractors to keep the space comfortable during intense sessions. We also fitted an outdoor tap and towel rail near the entrance for cooling down before heading back to the house.

He trains at 6am most mornings and told us the garden gym has become essential to his daily routine. The short walk across the garden, a focused 45-minute session, then back to the house for breakfast and the 7:15 train to Waterloo. He says it sets him up for the day better than any gym membership ever did.

Garden Studio, Surbiton

A podcast producer in Long Ditton needed a soundproofed recording studio at home. Her 1930s semi had a well-proportioned rear garden, and we built a 4.5m x 3.5m garden studio from our Midi range with enhanced acoustic treatment throughout, including double-skinned walls with an air gap, acoustic mineral wool, and a floating floor to prevent vibration transfer.

Inside, we fitted acoustic foam panels on the ceiling and upper walls, a dedicated recording desk with cable routing channels, and a vocal booth corner with heavy curtain surround. The electrical installation includes isolated circuits for audio equipment to prevent interference, and the lighting is entirely LED to avoid any electrical hum that microphones might pick up.

She now records all her podcasts from the garden studio and says the sound quality is better than the commercial studios she used to rent by the hour. The neighbours can’t hear a thing, and she can record at any time of day without worrying about background noise from the house or garden.

    About Surbiton

Surbiton sits on the south bank of the Thames in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, and it’s developed a strong reputation as one of London’s most liveable suburbs. The area has a relaxed, riverside village feel combined with the convenience of one of the fastest commuter rail services in the capital, with trains reaching Waterloo in under 20 minutes.

The architectural landscape is remarkably diverse. Grand 19th-century townhouses line the roads near the station, while Art Deco courts from the 1930s give parts of Surbiton a distinctive modernist character. Elsewhere you’ll find Victorian and Edwardian family homes, interwar terraces, and contemporary riverside apartments. The variety of property types is matched by a range of garden sizes, from compact courtyards to generous suburban plots.

Surbiton has a thriving local scene, with independent cafes, restaurants, and shops along Victoria Road and Claremont Road. The creative community is active, with regular markets and events throughout the year. For families, there are excellent schools and plenty of green space, including the Thames towpath and Surbiton’s well-maintained recreation grounds. The A3 provides direct road access to central London and to Surrey beyond.

    Visit Our Showroom

From Surbiton, our Biggin Hill showroom is approximately 35 minutes by car, heading south through Croydon and along the A233. Come and explore our Midi, Maxi, and Multi display buildings. It’s the most effective way to understand the space, quality, and finish of our garden rooms before you commit.

“We’d looked at loads of garden room websites and they all started to blur together. Visiting the showroom at Biggin Hill was what made the difference. The quality was immediately obvious, and the team spent ages talking us through options without any pressure. Our finished studio is perfect, and we’ve already recommended them to two neighbours.” – Rachel and Tom, Surbiton.
