Garden Rooms Battersea

Garden rooms expertly designed for Battersea’s Victorian terraces and mansion blocks. Garden Office Buildings brings twenty years of experience to SW11.

Battersea is one of South West London’s most dynamic neighbourhoods, combining 200 acres of parkland with a brilliant mix of Victorian terraces, mansion blocks, and riverside apartments. Whether you live on a leafy street near Northcote Road, in a Shaftesbury Estate cottage, or in one of the handsome period houses along Battersea Park Road, a bespoke garden room can unlock valuable extra space without the upheaval of a full extension.

We’re a family-run company based in Biggin Hill, and we’ve been building garden rooms across SW11 for over twenty years. Battersea’s varied housing stock keeps our work interesting. Some gardens here are compact, especially behind the tighter Victorian terraces on Mysore Road or Sugden Road, while others, particularly near the park or on the Shaftesbury Estate, offer generous plots. We design for every scenario and access condition.

Visit our showroom to see the difference between a properly built garden room and the flat-pack alternatives. We use full timber frame construction, high-performance insulation, and premium double glazing on every build. No shortcuts, no subcontractors you haven’t met.

Our buildings and prices page gives you a transparent view of what each option costs. We always start with a free site survey so we can understand your garden, your access, and your requirements before quoting.

Garden Gym, Battersea

A personal trainer living in a Victorian terrace on Sisters Avenue had been renting studio space near Clapham Junction to run one-to-one sessions. The overheads were eating into his earnings, and he realised he could build a proper gym in his own rear garden and bring clients to him instead. We designed a 5m x 4m insulated garden room with reinforced rubber flooring, full-height bi-fold doors, and dedicated power for commercial gym equipment.

The garden backed onto a railway embankment, so we added enhanced acoustic insulation to reduce noise from passing trains. Inside, the space accommodates a functional training rig, adjustable bench, dumbbells up to 40kg, and a rowing machine, with room for two people to train comfortably. We fitted a wall-mounted screen for programme display and a Bluetooth sound system.

He told us the building paid for itself within eight months. He now runs six sessions a day from the garden gym and his clients love the private, focused environment compared to a commercial facility. The exterior is finished in dark composite cladding that gives the building a sleek, professional appearance from the garden, and he’s had several enquiries from neighbours on the same street.

Garden Annexe, Battersea

A retired couple in a large Edwardian semi on Lavender Gardens needed a self-contained annexe for their elderly mother, who was finding the stairs in their three-storey house increasingly difficult. They wanted her to remain close but have her own independent space at ground level with step-free access. We built a Multi configuration at 7m x 4m, with a bedroom area, a small kitchenette, an accessible wet room, and a sitting area with French doors onto the garden.

The build included underfloor heating throughout, grab rails in the wet room, widened doorways, and a hardwired alarm connected to the main house. We matched the cedar cladding to the warm tones of the original brickwork, and laid a paved path from the back door to the annexe entrance so the route is flat and safe in all weather.

The family told us the annexe has given their mother genuine independence while keeping her close. She has her own routine, her own front door, and her own garden views, but she’s only thirty seconds from the main house. The couple said it was far more cost-effective than a residential care option and has brought real peace of mind to the whole family.

    About Battersea

Battersea occupies a prime stretch of South West London between the Thames and Clapham Common, falling within the London Borough of Wandsworth. The area is anchored by Battersea Park, 200 acres of Victorian parkland with a boating lake, children’s zoo, and sports facilities. Northcote Road provides a bustling village high street of independent shops, cafes, and the famous market, while Lavender Hill and Battersea Rise add further character. The regeneration around Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms has brought new energy and transport connections, including the Northern line extension.

Housing in Battersea ranges from ornate Victorian terraces on streets like Mysore Road and Longbeach Road to mansion blocks on Prince of Wales Drive, picturesque cottages on the Shaftesbury Estate, and modern riverside apartments. Clapham Junction, one of Britain’s busiest railway stations, sits on the western edge and provides services across London and the South East. Neighbouring areas include Clapham, Wandsworth, Nine Elms, and Balham. Rear gardens vary considerably in size, but most terraced and semi-detached properties have workable outdoor space for a well-designed garden room.

“We’d been looking at garden rooms online for months and couldn’t tell the good companies from the bad. Visiting the showroom made everything clear. The construction quality is superb and nothing like the flat-pack pods we’d considered. Our annexe for my mother was installed beautifully and the team were considerate throughout.” — Helen, Battersea SW11
