Garden Rooms Mitcham

Quality garden rooms for Mitcham’s family homes and spacious gardens. Garden Office Buildings has been building across CR4 for over two decades.

Mitcham is a part of South London where you can still get a family home with a proper garden, and that makes it ideal territory for a garden room. Whether you’re in a Victorian terrace near the Cricket Green, a 1930s semi on Raleigh Gardens, or a post-war family house near Mitcham Common, most properties here have the rear garden space and side access to accommodate a high-quality bespoke build.

We’re a family company based in Biggin Hill, and we’ve been designing and installing garden rooms across the CR4 area for over twenty years. Mitcham’s housing stock is varied, but the gardens tend to be generous by London standards. That gives us real scope to build something substantial, whether it’s a full-sized home office, a garden gym, or a studio with room to work comfortably.

Our showroom is well worth a visit. It’s around 30 minutes from Mitcham, and you’ll be able to see the build quality, test the insulation, and walk through our full range. These are solid, permanent buildings, not glorified sheds or flat-pack kits.

Have a look at our buildings and prices page for straightforward pricing. Every project begins with a free site visit, where we measure up, discuss your needs, and provide a fixed quote on the spot.

Garden Gym, Mitcham

A bus driver based at the Mitcham depot wanted a home gym so he could train between shifts without the time and expense of a commercial gym membership. He lives in a three-bedroom 1950s semi near Mitcham Eastfields station, with a long rear garden of around 18 metres. We built a 5m x 4m garden room towards the middle of the plot, positioned to take advantage of the afternoon sun through the front glazing.

The gym was fitted with commercial-grade rubber matting, a full power rack with a pull-up station, a cable machine, and a bench. We installed two wall-mounted fans and a convector heater, plus a heavy-duty electrical supply to handle the equipment load. The exterior was finished in dark cedar-effect composite cladding, which sits well against the mature laurel hedging along the boundary.

He told us the gym has been a genuine game-changer for his fitness. He can squeeze in a training session before an early shift or after a late one, and he’s lost over a stone since the build was completed. His teenage son has started lifting as well, and the two of them train together most weekends. Neighbours on both sides have commented on how neat and professional the building looks.

Garden Office, Mitcham

An IT consultant who had been commuting from Mitcham Junction station to an office in the City decided to go fully remote and invest in a permanent home office. Her 1930s semi on Wandle Road had a generous south-facing garden with easy side gate access, making delivery and installation straightforward. We built a Maxi at 5.5m x 3.5m with full-width bi-fold doors across the front elevation.

Inside, we fitted a full-length built-in desk with integrated cable management, a wall of shelving for tech equipment and reference books, and a compact standing desk station at one end. Gigabit ethernet was hardwired from the house, and underfloor heating keeps the space comfortable through winter without cluttering the walls with radiators. We also installed a small air conditioning unit for the summer months when the south-facing aspect heats up.

She has been working from the garden office full time for over a year now and says her productivity has never been higher. The commute saving alone covers the monthly finance cost, and she no longer has to cram her work into the family kitchen. Her employer has been so impressed with the professional backdrop on video calls that two other colleagues in the Merton area have since enquired about builds of their own.

    About Mitcham

Mitcham sits within the London Borough of Merton, straddling the boundary with Croydon and Sutton. It’s one of South London’s most established residential areas, with roots stretching back to the Domesday Book and a cricket heritage that predates nearly every other ground in England. The Cricket Green, with its pretty cluster of period buildings, is the historic heart of the neighbourhood. Housing ranges from Victorian terraces near the centre to interwar semis and 1950s family homes in the surrounding streets, plus newer developments along the Wandle corridor. Raleigh Gardens, with its distinctive brick terraces and original boundary walls, is one of the more characterful residential pockets.

Transport links include Mitcham Junction and Mitcham Eastfields stations for Southern and Thameslink rail services, plus the Tramlink network connecting the area to Croydon, Wimbledon, and Beckenham. Mitcham Common provides 460 acres of green space, one of the largest open areas in South London, and is a designated Site of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation. Neighbouring areas include Tooting and Streatham to the north, Morden to the west, and Croydon to the south-east. Properties here tend to have generous gardens with good access, making Mitcham one of our most straightforward areas for garden room installations.

“We weren’t sure a garden office would work in our budget, but the team at the showroom talked us through every option honestly. No pressure, no upselling. The Maxi model is exactly what we needed, and the build was completed in just four days. We use it every single day and wish we’d done it years ago.” – Rachel, Mitcham CR4
