Garden Gym, Tonbridge

A PE teacher living in an Edwardian family home on one of the residential streets near Dry Hill Park wanted a space where he could train at home and offer occasional personal training sessions to friends and colleagues. His garden was wide and mature, about 80 feet deep, with a lovely view across the neighbouring gardens towards the castle grounds in the distance. We designed a 5m x 4m garden gym and positioned it to capture those views through a full-width glazed front elevation.

The build was specified for serious use. We installed a reinforced floor slab, shock-absorbing rubber matting over the entire floor area, and wall-mounted storage racks for kettlebells and weight plates. A high-mounted ventilation system and a quiet split-unit air conditioner keep the air moving during intense sessions. We also fitted an external tap and a small covered area by the entrance for cooling down after workouts.

He told us the gym has become the social hub of his friend group. Saturday morning training sessions have become a regular fixture, and he loves that his commute to the gym is now a fifteen-second walk across the lawn. The view towards the castle doesn’t hurt either, he says.

Garden Office, Tonbridge

A marketing consultant who’d been working from a converted spare bedroom in a Victorian semi near Tonbridge station needed more space and better separation between work and family life. Her garden ran down to the River Medway towpath, and she wanted an office that would feel like a calm, considered workspace rather than a garden shed with a desk in it. We installed our Maxi model about halfway down the garden, oriented to face the river through a pair of full-height glazed panels.

The interior was designed around her workflow. A long built-in desk ran the full width of the rear wall, with integrated power and data points for two monitors and a printer. We fitted a pinboard wall for campaign planning, a small sofa for reading briefs, and a compact kitchen counter with a boiling water tap. The flooring was engineered oak in a warm natural tone, and the walls were finished in a soft sage green that she chose to complement the view.

She’s told us the river view alone was worth the investment. Watching the ducks and the occasional kayaker drift past while she works has become one of her favourite things about remote working. The Maxi gave her exactly the right amount of space, not too big, not too small, and the quality of the build gets commented on by every client who visits.

    About Tonbridge

    Tonbridge is a historic market town in the Medway valley, centred around its striking 13th century castle and a charming High Street lined with independent shops, cafes and restaurants. The River Medway runs through the heart of the town, and the public gardens along the riverbank are beautifully maintained and popular with families throughout the year.
