Garden Rooms Bermondsey

Bespoke garden rooms for Bermondsey’s converted warehouses and Victorian terraces. Garden Office Buildings has been transforming SE1 and SE16 gardens for over twenty years.

Bermondsey has evolved from its industrial roots into one of South East London’s most sought-after neighbourhoods, and the mix of property types here creates some brilliant opportunities for garden room projects. Whether you live in a converted warehouse off Bermondsey Street, a Georgian townhouse near Rotherhithe Street, or a Victorian terrace backing onto Southwark Park, we can design and build a garden room that makes the most of your outdoor space.

We are a family company based in Biggin Hill with over twenty years of experience across SE1 and SE16. Bermondsey gardens can vary enormously, from generous plots behind period homes on Lynton Road to tighter courtyard spaces in newer developments near Bermondsey Spa. We have worked with every configuration and know how to maximise even the most compact garden without making it feel cramped.

Visit our showroom to see our construction quality first hand. Every build uses proper insulated timber frames, high performance double glazing, and premium cladding. These are permanent, year-round buildings designed to last decades.

For a clear breakdown of sizes and costs, take a look at our buildings and prices page. We always start with a free site visit so we can assess your garden, discuss your plans, and give you a fixed price with no hidden extras.

Home Gym, Bermondsey

A solicitor living in a period conversion on Tanner Street wanted a dedicated training space to replace her morning gym sessions in Canada Water. Her rear garden was around 11 metres deep with a mature brick wall along the boundary, a feature she wanted to keep visible. We designed a 4.5m x 3.5m garden gym positioned to leave clear sightlines to the original brickwork and existing fig tree.

Inside, we fitted high-density rubber flooring rated for dropped weights, full-length mirrors along one wall, and a wall-mounted air conditioning unit for summer sessions. The client opted for a squat rack, adjustable bench, cable machine, and a rowing machine, all of which fitted comfortably with room to move. Two large skylights flood the space with natural light without compromising wall space for equipment.

She told us the gym has completely changed her routine. She trains before work most mornings and no longer has to factor in a commute to the leisure centre. Several of her neighbours in the converted warehouse block have since asked for our details, and we have completed two further consultations on the same street.

Garden Office, Bermondsey

A food writer and recipe developer who had been renting a hot desk near London Bridge needed a quiet, professional workspace at home. She and her partner owned an Edwardian terrace on Reverdy Road with a south-facing garden about 13 metres deep. We installed our Maxi model at 5.5m x 3.5m, finished in larch cladding that will silver naturally over time to complement the garden’s established planting.

The interior was fitted with a built-in desk running the full width of the back wall, integrated shelving for cookbooks and reference materials, and dedicated circuits for a desktop computer and photographic lighting. We also added a small sink unit for food styling work, plumbed directly from the house. Underfloor heating keeps the space comfortable throughout the year without radiators taking up valuable wall space.

She moved in within days of handover and has since hosted recipe shoots and editorial meetings in the garden office. The separation from the house has been invaluable for her concentration, and she estimates the savings on desk rental covered the finance payments from the very first month.

    About Bermondsey

Bermondsey sits on the south bank of the Thames, stretching from London Bridge down to Rotherhithe. Once defined by its leather tanning industry and wharves, the area has reinvented itself as an arts and food destination while keeping its distinctive character. Bermondsey Street is the social spine, lined with independent restaurants, galleries, and the White Cube gallery space. Maltby Street Market and Spa Terminus draw weekend crowds for artisan food, and Southwark Park provides 63 acres of green space with a boating lake, bandstand, and sports facilities. The housing stock is wonderfully varied: Georgian townhouses on the grander streets, Victorian terraces on the quieter roads, converted warehouses, and modern developments at Canada Water and around Bermondsey Spa Gardens.

Transport is excellent. Bermondsey station on the Jubilee line connects to Canary Wharf, the West End, and Stratford, while London Bridge station is within walking distance for Thameslink, Southern, and Southeastern services. Buses along Jamaica Road and Tower Bridge Road serve multiple routes. We also cover nearby Rotherhithe, Peckham, Walworth, and Camberwell from our Biggin Hill base.

    Visit Our Showroom

From Bermondsey, our Biggin Hill showroom is approximately 40 minutes by car, heading south through Lewisham and Bromley on the A21 and A233. It is a straightforward drive and well worth the trip to see our Midi, Maxi, and Multi models up close before committing to your project.

“We had been looking online at garden offices for months and they all blur together on screen. Visiting the showroom changed everything. The thickness of the walls, the quality of the windows, the way the doors close — you can feel it is a proper building, not a shed. Our Maxi was installed five weeks later and it looks stunning.” — Sarah and James, SE16
