Garden Rooms Purley

Bespoke garden rooms designed for Purley’s impressive interwar homes and leafy estate roads. Over 1,000 builds and counting since 2004.

Purley’s one of those areas where the gardens really do the talking. The interwar building boom left this part of south London with an abundance of detached and semi-detached houses on generous plots, many with the kind of wide, mature gardens that are absolutely perfect for a garden room build. The Webb Estate, in particular, has some of the finest residential gardens in the borough.

We’ve worked across Purley, Sanderstead, and Riddlesdown, and we know the area well. The combination of large plots, established hedging, and leafy surroundings means garden buildings here tend to feel very private and secluded, even though you’re still only 25 minutes from central London by train.

If you’re thinking about a garden office, gym, or studio in Purley, start by browsing our buildings and prices. Then come to our Biggin Hill showroom to see the quality for yourself. We’re a short drive from Purley and we’d love to show you around.

Every build is fully bespoke. We design around your garden’s shape, your property’s style, and your exact requirements. No templates, no compromises.

Garden Gym, Purley

A semi-professional rugby player living on the Webb Estate needed a serious training space for his off-season conditioning. His 1930s detached house had a long, flat rear garden screened by mature laurel hedging, and we built a 7m x 5m garden gym that rivals many commercial facilities.

We installed a heavy-duty power rack, Olympic lifting platform with double-layer rubber matting, and wall-mounted rig for pull-ups, dips, and muscle-ups. The electrics include a 40-amp supply for a commercial-grade air conditioning unit, and we fitted industrial LED panel lighting for consistent brightness during winter evening sessions.

His teammates have started coming over for training sessions, and he joked that the garden gym has become an unofficial second training ground. The scale of the build was made possible by the generous plot size that’s typical of Purley’s estate roads.

Garden Office, Purley

A husband-and-wife accountancy team in Sanderstead needed a shared home office where they could both work without getting under each other’s feet. Their Edwardian detached house had a beautiful rear garden with a gently sloping lawn, and we built a 6.5m x 4m dual-desk office based on our Multi range with a dividing partition that can be opened or closed depending on whether they’re collaborating or need quiet focus time.

Each workstation has its own dedicated power, lighting, and ethernet connection, and we fitted a small kitchenette along the back wall with a sink, mini fridge, and space for a coffee machine. The exterior was finished in larch cladding that will silver naturally over time, complementing the mature garden planting.

They told us the shared garden office has actually improved their working relationship. Having separate zones means they can concentrate when needed, but they’re close enough to discuss client matters without picking up the phone. It’s also freed up two rooms in the house that are now back to being a guest bedroom and a playroom.

    About Purley

Purley sits at the southern edge of the London Borough of Croydon, right on the border with Surrey. It has a distinctly suburban character, with tree-lined avenues, conservation areas, and a quieter pace of life than nearby Croydon town centre. The Webb Estate, designed by developer William Webb in the early 20th century, is one of the most distinctive residential areas in south London, with curving roads, Arts and Crafts houses, and abundant mature planting.

Purley station is served by Southern and Thameslink trains, with fast services reaching London Bridge in under 25 minutes and London Victoria in a similar time. Gatwick Airport is a direct train ride away. The A23 runs through the area, and the M23 and M25 are easily accessible for longer journeys.

The housing stock is dominated by the interwar period, with generous detached and semi-detached homes set on large plots. Many properties feature sweeping driveways, double garages, and substantial rear gardens. These spacious plots are exactly why garden rooms have become such a popular addition in the area, giving homeowners the extra space they need without sacrificing their garden.
