Garden Rooms Camberwell

Garden rooms designed for Camberwell’s stunning Georgian terraces and vibrant creative community. Garden Office Buildings delivers bespoke builds across SE5.

Camberwell is one of South London’s most culturally rich neighbourhoods, and its diverse housing stock creates wonderful opportunities for garden room projects. From the magnificent Georgian townhouses on Camberwell Grove, widely regarded as one of the finest residential streets in London, to the Victorian terraces around Grove Lane and Love Walk, properties here often have generous rear gardens that are perfectly suited to a bespoke garden building.

We are a family company based in Biggin Hill with over twenty years of experience building garden offices, studios, and gyms across SE5. Camberwell gardens vary in size and orientation, but we have worked with every type of plot, from the long, narrow gardens behind terraced houses on Camberwell New Road to the more expansive plots surrounding detached properties near Ruskin Park.

Our showroom is about 35 minutes from Camberwell and gives you a chance to see the difference between a properly constructed garden building and the prefabricated alternatives. We use insulated timber frames, high-specification double glazing, and premium cladding as standard on every build.

Browse our buildings and prices page for a clear view of what is available at each size and budget. We offer a free site survey where we measure your garden, discuss your plans, and provide a fixed-price quotation on the spot.

Garden Gym, Camberwell

An A&E nurse working shifts at King’s College Hospital needed a reliable training space she could use at any hour without worrying about gym opening times. She owned a two-bedroom Victorian terrace on Benhill Road with a compact but serviceable rear garden of about 9 metres. We designed a 4m x 3m garden gym positioned against the back boundary wall, leaving enough space for a small patio and raised herb beds near the kitchen door.

Inside, we fitted shock-absorbent rubber matting, a wall-mounted squat rack, an adjustable bench, and a compact spin bike. Ventilation was important given the intensity of her training, so we installed a quiet extraction fan alongside the standard opening windows. LED strip lighting along the ceiling creates an even, bright environment for early-morning sessions before a night shift, and we added blackout blinds for daytime sleeping days when her partner uses the gym instead.

She told us the gym has been a lifeline for managing the physical and mental demands of shift work. Training at home, on her own schedule, has made a measurable difference to her wellbeing. Her neighbour on the adjoining terrace has since commissioned a similar build from us.

Garden Office, Camberwell

A senior lecturer at Camberwell College of Arts needed a proper home studio for her painting practice and academic writing. She lived in a handsome Georgian end-of-terrace on Camberwell Grove with a south-west-facing garden that received excellent afternoon light. We installed a Maxi model at 6m x 4m, the largest footprint the garden would comfortably accommodate while still leaving space for her established magnolia tree and seating area.

The studio was designed with a large north-facing window for painting and a secondary south-facing window for the desk area. We fitted a Belfast sink with hot and cold water for brush cleaning, vinyl plank flooring that can withstand paint spills, and a wall of floor-to-ceiling shelving for art materials and reference books. A dedicated 32-amp electrical supply powers her kiln, and standard circuits handle the computer, printer, and lighting.

She moved her entire practice home within a week of handover and says the building has been transformative for her creative output. Students occasionally visit for tutorials, and the studio has featured in a Camberwell Arts Festival open studios event. She credits the quality of the natural light and the separation from domestic life as the two biggest benefits.
