Garden Rooms Morden

Garden rooms built for Morden’s spacious 1930s family homes and generous plots. Garden Office Buildings has been serving SM4 for over two decades.

Morden is a settled, family friendly neighbourhood in South London with exactly the kind of housing stock that makes a garden room a smart investment. The 1930s semi detached and detached homes that characterise the SM4 area, particularly around Cannon Hill, Lower Morden, and the St Helier estate, tend to have generous rear gardens and good side access. Whether you need a home office, a garden gym, or a creative studio, a bespoke garden room from our team will maximise the potential of your outdoor space.

We are a family run company based in Biggin Hill, and we have been building garden rooms across Morden and the surrounding area for over twenty years. We understand the local housing stock inside out, from the classic three bedroom suburban semis on Central Road to the larger properties near Morden Park. Every build is designed specifically for your garden, constructed by our own team, and finished to a standard that will last decades.

Our showroom in Biggin Hill is well worth visiting. You can walk through finished buildings, feel the thickness of the walls, and talk to the people who will actually be building your garden room. We use proper timber frame construction, full insulation, and high specification glazing as standard.

Check out our buildings and prices page for transparent pricing across all sizes. We start every project with a free site visit and provide a fixed price quote with no hidden extras.

Garden Gym, Morden

A paramedic working shifts out of St Helier Hospital wanted a home gym where he could train at unsociable hours without disturbing his family or paying for a 24 hour gym membership. He lived in a three bedroom 1930s semi on Green Lane near Morden Park, with a long rear garden of around 20 metres and easy side gate access from the driveway. We built a 5m x 3.5m gym at the far end of the garden, well away from the house and neighbouring bedrooms.

We fitted heavy duty rubber flooring, a squat rack with Olympic barbell, a compact rowing machine, and a pull up station. Sound insulation was enhanced beyond our standard specification, which means he can train with music at five in the morning without waking anyone. LED strip lighting on dimmer control lets him adjust the ambience for early morning sessions, and a wall mounted fan provides ventilation without the noise of air conditioning.

He has been using the gym for over a year and says it has been transformative for managing the physical demands of his job. Shift patterns mean he often needs to train at odd hours, and having the gym 20 metres from his back door has made that practical. Two of his colleagues from the hospital have asked for our details after seeing photos of the finished build.

Garden Annexe, Morden

A young family on Tudor Drive near Lower Morden needed additional living space for the wife’s mother, who was downsizing from a larger house in Sutton. Rather than extending the main house or moving to a bigger property, they chose a self contained garden annexe. Their detached 1930s home had a spacious rear garden with level ground and a wide side drive for access. We installed a Multi at 7m x 4.5m, configured as a one bedroom annexe with a small open plan kitchen and living area, a separate bedroom, and a fully fitted shower room.

The annexe has underfloor heating throughout, a flush threshold entrance for easy access, and full height French doors from the living area opening onto a small private terrace. We ran a separate electricity supply and plumbed hot and cold water from the main house. The exterior is finished in honey toned larch cladding with a flat sedum roof, giving the building a contemporary but warm appearance that sits naturally in the garden.

The mother in law moved in within a week of handover and the family told us the arrangement has worked beautifully. She has her own independence and privacy, while being just a few steps from the grandchildren. The build added significant value to the property, and we have since received enquiries from three other families on the same street considering similar projects.

    About Morden

Morden sits at the southern end of the Northern line, making it the first Underground stop into South London and giving residents a direct 28 minute journey to Bank and 30 minutes to Tottenham Court Road. The station itself is a handsome Art Deco building dating from 1926. At the heart of the area is Morden Hall Park, a 125 acre National Trust estate featuring meadows, wetlands, a riverside walk along the River Wandle, and a restored 18th century snuff mill. Cannon Hill Common and Ravensbury Park provide further green space.

The housing stock is predominantly 1930s suburban family homes, particularly three bedroom semi detached houses with generous rear gardens, many featuring original period details and well maintained front gardens. The St Helier estate to the east offers spacious ex local authority properties, while Lower Morden and the Cannon Hill area have attractive interwar semis popular with families. Morden borders Merton and Wimbledon to the north, Mitcham to the east, and Sutton to the south. Property prices are notably more affordable than neighbouring Wimbledon, making Morden popular with first time buyers and young families seeking space and good transport links.

“We were not sure what to expect but the showroom visit sold it for us completely. The build quality is clearly superior to the flat pack options we had been considering, and the team were honest and helpful without any hard sell. Our garden annexe was built in six weeks, exactly on budget, and my mother in law absolutely loves it.” – Rachel and Steve, Morden SM4
