Garden Rooms Orpington

Garden rooms designed and built for Orpington homes. We’re a family company based just down the road in Biggin Hill, with over 1,000 builds since 2004.

Orpington is right on our doorstep, and we’ve been building garden rooms here for over twenty years. At Garden Office Buildings, we know the area inside out, from the 1930s semis around the high street to the larger detached properties out towards Farnborough and Green Street Green.

Gardens in Orpington tend to be a good size, particularly on the estates built in the 1950s and 1960s where plots were laid out more generously. That makes Orpington a brilliant location for a garden office, gym or studio. We’ve worked on everything from compact builds tucked into the corner of a courtyard garden to large multi-room setups on the bigger plots towards Goddington and Crofton.

If you’d like to see our buildings in person, our showroom in Biggin Hill is only ten minutes away. You can also browse the full range on our buildings and prices page. We offer free site visits across Orpington and the surrounding area, and there’s never any obligation.

Being so close means we can be flexible with survey times and responsive during the build itself. Many of our team live locally, so we take real pride in the work we do here. Your garden room will be around for a long time, and so will we.

Garden Gym, Orpington

A secondary school teacher living in a 1960s detached house near Goddington Park wanted a home gym so he could stay fit around a busy teaching schedule. His rear garden was about 60 feet long with a gentle slope, and he’d been putting off the project because he wasn’t sure a gym could work on uneven ground. We levelled a base at the far end and installed a 5m x 4m garden gym with views back towards the house and across to the park’s mature tree canopy.

Inside, we fitted heavy-duty vinyl flooring rated for gym use, along with reinforced wall panels for mounting a pull-up bar and resistance band anchors. The electrical setup included dedicated circuits for a treadmill and a wall-mounted fan heater, plus USB charging points and overhead LED panels. A single anthracite grey aluminium door with a sidelight kept the front elevation clean and simple.

He told us the gym has become the most used space in the house, which is saying something with two teenagers at home. He particularly appreciates being able to fit in a session before school without waking anyone up, and the views of Goddington Park through the front window make the treadmill sessions a lot more bearable.

Garden Office, Orpington

An accountant who’d been commuting to the City from a 1930s semi near Orpington station decided to go fully remote and needed a proper office space. His garden was typical of the area: about 70 feet deep, mostly laid to lawn, with a patio near the house and a shed at the far end. We removed the old shed and installed our Maxi model in its place, making use of the existing power route to keep installation costs down.

The office was fitted with a built-in L-shaped desk along two walls, overhead shelving for files and reference books, and a compact meeting area near the entrance for the occasional client visit. We used a warm grey interior scheme with oak-effect flooring to keep things feeling professional but relaxed. Full insulation and a split-system air conditioning unit mean it stays comfortable even on the hottest summer days.

He reckons he’s saving close to two hours a day on commuting, plus the cost of a season ticket to Cannon Street. The office is fully wired with Cat6 ethernet, so his connection is rock solid for video calls. He told us it feels like a proper workplace, not a garden shed, which was exactly the brief.

    About Orpington

Orpington is one of the larger towns in the London Borough of Bromley, sitting at the southern edge of Greater London where the suburbs start to give way to the Kent countryside. The high street has a good mix of shops, restaurants and cafes, and the town is well served by Orpington station, which provides direct trains to London Victoria, London Bridge and Charing Cross. Most journeys into central London take around 25 to 30 minutes.

Property in Orpington is varied. You’ll find everything from 1930s semis and terraces near the town centre to larger detached homes on the outskirts towards Farnborough, Crofton and Goddington. Gardens are generally a decent size, and many of the post-war estates have plots that are well suited to garden buildings. Green spaces include Priory Gardens, Goddington Park and the Crofton Woods, giving the area a pleasant, semi-rural feel despite being inside the M25.

We also serve the surrounding areas of Bromley, Petts Wood, Chislehurst, St Mary Cray and Biggin Hill. If you’re in the BR5 or BR6 postcode area, we’re very much on your doorstep.

“Being so close to the showroom made the whole process really easy. We popped in on a Sunday afternoon, loved what we saw, and had a site visit booked by Monday. The team were really knowledgeable about the planning side of things, which took a lot of the stress away. Our Maxi office was installed in just eight days and it’s absolutely spot on. Proper quality, not like the flat-pack stuff you see online.” , David, Orpington, BR6
