Garden Rooms West Wickham

Garden rooms designed for West Wickham’s family homes. We’re a local family builder with over 1,000 projects since 2004.

West Wickham’s a popular area for garden rooms, and it’s not hard to see why. At Garden Office Buildings, we’ve been working in West Wickham since 2004, and the area’s classic 1930s housing stock with its generous rear gardens is a perfect match for our bespoke garden buildings.

Most homes in West Wickham are 1920s and 1930s semi-detached and detached properties, and one of the things we love about them is the garden space. These houses were built when plots were larger, and it’s common to find rear gardens of 60 to 80 feet or more, especially on the streets between the High Street and Coney Hall. That gives us plenty of room to create a comfortable garden office, gym or studio without eating into your usable outdoor space.

Our showroom in Biggin Hill is only about 15 minutes from West Wickham, so it’s easy to come and see our buildings before you decide. You can also browse the full range on our buildings and prices page. We offer free site visits and detailed written quotes with no hidden extras.

We’re a family company, and a lot of our work comes through recommendations from neighbours and friends. West Wickham’s the kind of close-knit community where word gets around, and we take real pride in that.

Garden Gym, West Wickham

A nurse working shifts at a local hospital wanted a home gym in the garden of her 1930s semi-detached house near Blake Recreation Ground. Working irregular hours meant she could never commit to a gym class schedule, and she wanted the freedom to train whenever she had time. Her garden was about 65 feet long with a paved patio at the house end and a lawn running down to a timber fence at the back. We installed a 4m x 4m garden gym just beyond the patio, close enough to the house to make a quick session feel effortless.

Inside, we fitted rubber gym flooring, a compact but effective ventilation system, and power sockets positioned for a treadmill and a TV. Wall-mounted hooks hold resistance bands and yoga straps, and a full-length mirror runs along one wall. The front window looks out across the garden and catches a glimpse of the mature trees in Blake Recreation Ground, which makes the treadmill sessions feel less like hard work.

She told us she uses the gym three or four times a week now, often after a long shift when a trip to a commercial gym would be the last thing she’d want to do. The convenience has made all the difference, and the build quality means it still looks and feels brand new even after heavy use.

Garden Office, West Wickham

A husband and wife who both work from home needed a shared garden office so they could free up the two bedrooms they’d been using as makeshift workspaces. Their 1930s detached house near Coney Hall had a lovely wide garden, about 70 feet deep with established hedging on both sides. We installed our Multi model, which gave them two separate rooms: one for each of them, so they could take calls without interrupting each other.

Each room was fitted with a built-in desk, integrated power and data points, and its own thermostat-controlled heating panel. A shared entrance lobby kept things feeling connected but private. We used a light ash laminate flooring throughout and painted the walls in a soft off-white to maximise the sense of space. The front elevation was fully glazed, giving both rooms a view down the garden towards the mature trees at the boundary.

They told us the Multi was a brilliant solution to a problem they’d been struggling with for years. Having separate, dedicated workspaces has improved both their productivity and, they admitted with a laugh, their marriage. The two spare bedrooms have gone back to being bedrooms, and the whole house feels bigger as a result.

    About West Wickham

West Wickham sits in the London Borough of Bromley, between Beckenham to the north and Hayes to the south. It’s a quiet, family-oriented suburb with a strong community feel, a compact High Street with useful local shops, and good access to green spaces including Blake Recreation Ground, Coney Hall Recreation Ground and the open land around Spring Park. The area developed mainly in the 1920s and 1930s, and this inter-war housing stock defines the character of most residential streets.

The typical West Wickham property is a three or four-bedroom semi-detached house with a bay-fronted facade, a tiled porch and a generous rear garden. Detached homes are also common, particularly on the wider avenues near Coney Hall. Transport links are good, with West Wickham station providing services to London Charing Cross and Cannon Street in around 25 minutes, and the 119 and 194 bus routes connecting to Croydon and Bromley.

We also cover the neighbouring areas of Bromley, Hayes, Beckenham, Shirley and Keston. If you’re anywhere in the BR4 postcode area, we’d love to hear from you.

“We’d been thinking about a garden office for a couple of years but never got round to it. We finally visited the showroom one weekend and wished we’d done it ages ago. The Multi model was exactly what we needed for two home workers. The whole process was smooth, from the survey to the build, and the team finished ahead of schedule. It’s honestly transformed how we work and given us our spare rooms back. Can’t fault them at all.” , Mark and Louise, West Wickham, BR4
