Garden Rooms Brockley

Garden rooms crafted for Brockley’s award-winning Victorian conservation area. Garden Office Buildings knows SE4 inside out.

Brockley is one of the finest preserved Victorian suburbs in inner London, and the homes here deserve a garden room that matches their quality. Whether you are in one of the grand Italianate villas on Wickham Road, a handsome terrace on Tressillian Road, or a more modest cottage on one of the quieter side streets, we can build something that sits beautifully in your garden and adds genuine value to your property.

We are a family business based in Biggin Hill, and Brockley is an area we know well. The generous rear gardens behind many SE4 properties, often accessed via the free-access mews lanes that run behind the main avenues, make installation straightforward. We have completed builds on Breakspears Road, Tyrwhitt Road, and several streets within the Brockley Conservation Area, always working sensitively with the period character of the surroundings.

Our showroom is about 30 minutes from Brockley, and it is the best way to appreciate the difference between our builds and the flat-pack alternatives you will find online. Come and see the construction quality for yourself.

For transparent pricing across all our sizes, visit our buildings and prices page. Every project begins with a free site visit where we measure up and discuss your requirements face to face.

Garden Gym, Brockley

A secondary school music teacher living on Ashby Road wanted to convert part of her rear garden into a training space for marathon preparation. Her Victorian mid-terrace had a 14-metre garden with good side access via the mews lane at the rear, which made materials delivery simple. We built a 4m x 3m insulated garden gym tucked into the far corner of the plot, leaving plenty of room for her children to play.

The interior features high-impact rubber flooring, a wall-mounted fold-down treadmill, a set of kettlebells and resistance bands on a pegboard system, and a ceiling-mounted TRX anchor. A single wide window faces east for morning light, and we added a small canopy over the entrance so she can leave trainers outside without them getting soaked. The exterior was finished in painted timber cladding in a muted sage green to complement the garden planting.

She completed her first marathon six months after we handed over the building and credits the convenience of training at home for keeping her on schedule. Her husband has since started using the gym for lunchtime workouts during his remote working days, and they are both delighted with how much use the space gets.

Garden Studio, Brockley

A freelance illustrator and his partner, a part-time translator, needed a shared creative workspace in the garden of their Edwardian end-of-terrace on Tressillian Crescent. The brief was two distinct zones under one roof: a drawing studio with excellent natural light, and a quiet desk space for translation work with good acoustic separation. We built a Multi configuration at 6.5m x 3.5m with an internal partition wall and separate entrance doors for each zone.

The illustration side has a large north-facing window for consistent, diffused light, a plan chest, and a standing-height drawing board. The translation side is fully lined with acoustic insulation and features a built-in desk, bookshelves, and a small coffee station. Both zones have independent heating controls and dedicated ethernet connections hardwired back to the house router.

The couple told us the studio has transformed their working lives. They no longer rent separate desk spaces in Deptford and New Cross, saving them a combined sum that comfortably covers the monthly payments. The illustrator has hosted open studio events during the Brockley Art Trail, and the building has become a genuine talking point on the street.

    About Brockley

Brockley is a residential district in the London Borough of Lewisham, roughly five miles south-east of Charing Cross. It contains one of the best-preserved Victorian suburbs in inner London, with wide avenues of Italianate villas, Gothic Revival houses, and more modest workers’ cottages, many retaining original features such as sash windows, terracotta detailing, and tiled front paths. Much of north Brockley has been a Conservation Area since 1974, and the Brockley Society has worked to protect the area’s architectural character ever since. Key green spaces include Hilly Fields, with its panoramic views across the city, Blythe Hill Fields, and the Brockley and Ladywell Cemetery nature reserve.

Transport links are good. Brockley station offers London Overground services to Shoreditch High Street and Clapham Junction, while Honor Oak Park and Crofton Park provide Southern services to London Bridge and Victoria. The area sits between Lewisham, New Cross, Forest Hill, and Honor Oak, all of which we also serve from our Biggin Hill base.

“We were nervous about putting a modern building in our conservation area garden, but the team at Garden Office Buildings completely understood our concerns. They helped us choose cladding and colours that complement the Victorian house perfectly. The finished studio looks like it has always been there. Superb quality throughout.” — Tom and Aya, SE4
