Garden Rooms Kew

Garden rooms crafted for Kew’s elegant period homes and botanically rich gardens. Garden Office Buildings delivers excellence across TW9.

Kew is synonymous with gardens, and it’s only fitting that the homes here have some of the finest outdoor spaces in London. From the grand Georgian houses on Kew Green to the charming Victorian cottages along Sandycombe Road and the handsome Edwardian properties on the surrounding tree-lined streets, Kew offers an exceptional residential setting. A bespoke garden room is the perfect complement to these homes — adding usable space without disrupting the character of your garden.

We’re a family business in Biggin Hill with over twenty years of building experience. Kew’s mature, well-planted gardens require a sensitive approach, and we take great care to design buildings that sit naturally within established settings. Whether your property overlooks the Green, backs onto the Royal Botanic Gardens, or sits on one of the quiet residential avenues between Kew Road and the Thames, we’ll create something that enhances rather than overwhelms your outdoor space.

Our showroom is open for visits, and it’s the best way to appreciate the quality of our construction. We use premium timber frames, high-specification insulation, and carefully selected cladding and glazing throughout.

Garden Gym, Kew

A semi-retired orthopaedic surgeon living in a detached Edwardian house near Kew Green wanted a home gym focused on injury prevention and joint health. Years of standing in operating theatres had taken a toll on his back and knees, and his physiotherapist recommended a dedicated space for daily rehab exercises and low-impact strength training. His large, south-facing rear garden was screened by mature copper beech trees, providing a secluded setting for a 5m x 3.5m build.

We fitted cushioned performance flooring, a Pilates reformer bed along one wall, a compact cable machine, and a treatment bench for stretching. The full-height glazing on the garden side opens to a small timber deck, allowing him to warm up outdoors when the weather permits. We used western red cedar cladding to give the building a warm, organic appearance that sits harmoniously alongside the established planting.

He told us the gym has become central to his daily routine. He trains every morning before breakfast and has noticed a significant improvement in his mobility and pain levels. His wife uses the Pilates reformer in the afternoons, and their GP daughter has started bringing her own patients’ exercise plans to try in the space. The building blends so well with the garden that visitors often mistake it for an original outbuilding.

Garden Office, Kew

A botanical illustrator who works with the Royal Botanic Gardens on a freelance basis needed a dedicated studio close to her subject matter. She lived in a Victorian terraced house on Sandycombe Road and had been working in the box room, which lacked the natural light her detailed watercolour work demanded. We built a Midi at 4.5m x 3.5m with a large north-facing roof light and a full-width window overlooking her cottage garden.

The interior was fitted with a custom drawing table, flat file storage for finished botanical plates, and open shelving for reference books and pressed specimens. A Belfast sink in the corner serves for brush washing and specimen preparation. We installed underfloor heating to keep the space at a consistent temperature without the fluctuations that radiators produce, which matters when working with watercolour on fine paper.

She said the studio has elevated her practice enormously. The quality of light is incomparably better than the box room, and she can now invite curators and publishers to view her work in a professional setting. She brings specimens from the Gardens across to paint, and the studio has become something of a landmark in the neighbourhood. Two fellow illustrators from the Kew Guild have visited and enquired about their own builds.

    About Kew

Kew sits in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, best known for the Royal Botanic Gardens — a 300-acre UNESCO World Heritage Site home to the world’s largest collection of living plants. Beyond the Gardens, Kew has a strong village identity centred on Kew Green, where Georgian houses surround a cricket pitch, and the village shops and weekly farmers’ market foster a genuine sense of community. The Thames towpath runs along the edge of the area, linking Kew to Richmond and Brentford.

The housing stock includes grand Georgian properties on and around the Green, Victorian terraces and cottages on Sandycombe Road and neighbouring streets, Edwardian detached houses, and some more recent riverside developments. Kew Gardens station provides District line and London Overground services, while Kew Bridge station connects to Waterloo via South Western Railway. Neighbouring areas include Richmond, Chiswick, Barnes, and Mortlake. Gardens in Kew are typically mature, well-maintained, and generously proportioned, making this one of the most rewarding areas for a sympathetically designed garden room.

    Visit Our Showroom

Our Biggin Hill showroom is approximately 50 minutes from Kew by car, heading south through Richmond, Kingston, and Bromley. It’s a longer journey, but one our Kew clients consistently tell us was worthwhile. Come and inspect our Midi, Maxi, and Multi buildings and feel the quality of materials and finish for yourself.

“We visited three garden room companies before finding this showroom, and the difference was immediately obvious. The build quality is genuinely impressive — real craftsmanship, not a prefab kit. Our garden studio was installed with minimal disruption to our established garden, and the team were meticulous throughout.” — Catherine, Kew TW9
