Garden Rooms Hampton Wick

Bespoke garden rooms for Hampton Wick’s Thames-side homes and village community. Garden Office Buildings brings two decades of expertise to KT1.

Hampton Wick is a charming Thames-side community nestled between Kingston upon Thames, Teddington, and the magnificent Bushy Park. The village has a genuine community spirit, with a friendly High Street, local cafes, and easy access to some of the finest green spaces in London. The housing ranges from period cottages and terraces to semi-detached family homes and modern apartments. If you’ve been thinking about a garden room, the gardens here are generally well-suited for a quality build.

We’re a family company based in Biggin Hill, and we’ve been designing and building bespoke garden rooms across South West London for over twenty years. Hampton Wick’s mix of property types gives us interesting design briefs — from compact gardens behind Victorian terraces to larger plots on the quieter residential roads. We work carefully with every site to create a building that maximises your space and complements your home.

Garden Gym, Hampton Wick

A triathlete and NHS nurse living in a Victorian terrace near the High Street wanted a training space where she could fit in sessions around demanding shift patterns. She needed room for a turbo trainer, a rowing machine, and a small free weights area, and wanted the gym to feel motivating rather than clinical. Her rear garden was 12 metres deep with good side access from the street.

We designed a 4m x 3.5m insulated garden room with rubber flooring, a large window overlooking the garden, and a wall-mounted fan for high-intensity sessions. The interior was painted white to keep the space bright, with adjustable LED spotlights and a mounted screen for Zwift cycling sessions. We fitted a compact shelf unit for trainers, foam rollers, and hydration gear, keeping the floor clear and usable.

She told us the gym has been a game-changer for her training. After a night shift, she can step into the garden and ride for an hour without leaving the house. On days off, she combines gym sessions with runs through Bushy Park, which is virtually on her doorstep. The building has weathered beautifully, and the natural larch cladding has started to develop the silver patina that gives it a timeless, settled look in the garden.

Garden Annexe, Hampton Wick

A couple in a semi-detached Edwardian house on Lower Teddington Road needed a self-contained annexe for their university-age daughter, who was studying at Kingston University and wanted some independence without the cost of renting. We built a Multi configuration at 6.5m x 4m, containing a bedroom, a compact study area, a small kitchenette with sink and mini-fridge, and a shower room with WC.

The building has its own entrance from the garden path, underfloor heating throughout, and a generous picture window in the bedroom that fills the space with natural light. We matched the dark grey cladding to the window frames of the main house, creating a visual connection between the two buildings. A paved path with low-level lighting leads from the back door of the house to the annexe entrance.

The family said the annexe has been perfect for everyone. Their daughter has her own space and routine while still being close to home, and the parents have reclaimed the spare bedroom as a guest room. With Kingston town centre a ten-minute walk across Kingston Bridge and Bushy Park right next door, the location couldn’t be better for a student. The couple mentioned that the build has also added meaningful value to their property.

    About Hampton Wick

Hampton Wick is a small, tightly knit community in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, sitting on the western bank of the Thames between Kingston upon Thames and Teddington. Bushy Park, the second-largest Royal Park in London, occupies roughly four-fifths of the Hampton Wick ward, providing an extraordinary green backdrop of ancient chestnut avenues, deer herds, and open grassland. The village High Street offers a handful of cafes, convenience shops, and a post office, maintaining a genuine village atmosphere.

The housing stock includes Victorian and Edwardian terraces, semi-detached family homes, and a mix of flats and newer developments. The historic Kingston Bridge connects Hampton Wick to Kingston’s extensive shopping and dining scene. Hampton Wick station provides South Western Railway services to Waterloo, and buses connect to Kingston, Richmond, and Teddington. Neighbouring areas include Hampton, Kingston upon Thames, Teddington, and Surbiton. Most properties have rear gardens of a usable size, and the village’s residential character makes it a natural fit for garden room projects.
