Garden Rooms Kent

As a Kent-based family company, Garden Office Buildings is proud to be the county’s trusted garden room specialist, serving homeowners from Bromley to Canterbury and everywhere in between.

Kent is known as the Garden of England, and for good reason. From the rolling orchards and hop gardens of the Weald to the chalk downlands and historic coastline, this is a county where people genuinely value their outdoor space. At Garden Office Buildings, we’ve been designing and building bespoke garden rooms across Kent since 2004, and our base in Biggin Hill puts us right at the heart of the county we serve.

We work in towns and villages across the whole of Kent. Whether you’re in the leafy suburbs of Bromley, Beckenham, and Chislehurst, the market towns of Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells, or further afield in Maidstone, Ashford, Canterbury, Tonbridge, Dartford, or Gravesend, we’ll come to you, assess your garden, and design something that fits your space perfectly. We also cover the quieter villages like Bearsted, Westerham, Otford, Shoreham, Cranbrook, and Tenterden, where larger rural plots offer wonderful settings for a garden building.

Kent’s housing stock is wonderfully varied, and so are the gardens we work in. Victorian terraces in Dartford and Gravesend sit alongside Georgian townhouses in Canterbury and Tunbridge Wells. Interwar semis fill the suburbs of Bromley and Orpington, while detached homes in the Sevenoaks district and across the Weald sit on generous plots with gardens stretching to a quarter-acre or more. We’ve built in all of them, adapting each design to the specific space and setting. Browse our buildings and prices to see the range, or visit our showroom in Biggin Hill to experience the quality first hand.

With over 1,000 completed builds across Kent and the surrounding areas, we bring real depth of experience to every project. We don’t subcontract the work. Our own skilled team handles everything from groundworks to electrics, and every building is designed from scratch around your garden, your needs, and your budget. No two are the same, because no two gardens are the same.

Garden Gym, Sevenoaks

A chartered surveyor living in Otford, just outside Sevenoaks, contacted us after deciding that the 40-minute round trip to his gym was eating into time he could spend with his family. His 1950s detached house sat on a large plot with a south-west facing garden of around 120 feet, backing onto open farmland with views across the Darent Valley.

We built a 6m x 4.5m insulated garden gym with a reinforced concrete base, commercial-grade rubber flooring, and extra ceiling height to accommodate a full power rack with overhead pressing. The building features a continuous run of glazing across the front elevation, framing the countryside views, with two opening skylights for ventilation during intense sessions. We installed a wall-mounted air conditioning unit, a dedicated 32-amp circuit for a treadmill, and integrated Bluetooth speakers.

He told us it has transformed his routine. He trains every morning before driving to site visits across Kent, and the quality of the equipment he’s been able to install far exceeds anything his old gym offered. His two teenage sons have started training with him at weekends, and he said the views across the valley while working out make it genuinely enjoyable rather than a chore. The building sits beautifully at the end of the garden, screened by the mature apple trees that run along the boundary.

Garden Office, Tunbridge Wells

A literary agent working from a cramped study in her Victorian semi on Mount Pleasant Road in Tunbridge Wells needed a proper professional space for video calls with authors and publishers. The house was beautiful but the study was barely large enough for a desk, and the noise from the family downstairs made concentration difficult. Her garden was around 70 feet deep with established borders and a mature wisteria on the back wall of the house.

We designed a 5.5m x 3.5m Maxi positioned at the far end of the garden, with full-width glazing facing back towards the house and the wisteria. Inside, we fitted plastered walls painted in a warm white, underfloor heating, a built-in bookcase along the full length of one wall, and Cat 6 cabling for reliable broadband. A small kitchenette with a sink, fridge, and coffee machine means she can work a full day without returning to the house.

She said the office has elevated her entire practice. Clients are impressed by the space, and the garden backdrop on video calls has become something of a talking point. She works longer hours than she used to, but because she can close the door and walk back to the house at the end of the day, the boundaries between work and home are actually clearer. She told us it’s the best investment she’s made in her career, and she’s recommended us to two other agents in the area.

    About Kent

Kent is the south-easternmost county in England, stretching from the borders of Greater London all the way to the white cliffs of Dover and the historic cathedral city of Canterbury. Known as the Garden of England for its orchards, hop gardens, and rolling countryside, it’s a county of remarkable variety. The North Downs run across the county from west to east, the Weald spreads out to the south, and the Thames Estuary and Channel coast define the northern and eastern boundaries. The Kent Downs is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the county is home to some of the finest landscape in southern England.

The major towns each have their own distinct character. Maidstone is the county town, a commercial centre on the River Medway. Tunbridge Wells is a historic spa town with elegant Georgian architecture and the famous Pantiles. Sevenoaks sits at the gateway to the Weald, with Knole House and its deer park at the town’s edge. Canterbury is world-renowned for its cathedral and medieval heritage. Ashford has grown rapidly thanks to its international rail connections, while Dartford and Gravesend serve as busy Thames-side towns with strong London commuter links. Further into the borough of Bromley, towns like Orpington, Beckenham, Chislehurst, and Petts Wood blend suburban London living with a distinctly Kentish feel.

Transport links across Kent are strong. High-speed rail services from Ebbsfleet International and Ashford reach London St Pancras in under 40 minutes, while conventional services from towns across the county connect to London Victoria, Charing Cross, and London Bridge. The M20, M2, A2, and A21 provide major road routes through the county. For homeowners across Kent, from compact Victorian terraces to sprawling rural plots, a garden room offers a practical, high-quality way to gain extra space without the disruption and cost of a traditional extension.

“We searched all over Kent for a garden room company we could trust and visited three showrooms before finding Garden Office Buildings in Biggin Hill. The difference was night and day. Everything felt solid, properly constructed, and beautifully finished. Our garden office was installed in Tonbridge six weeks later and it’s been absolutely faultless. The whole team were friendly, professional, and a pleasure to work with.” – Martin and Jo, Tonbridge
