Garden Rooms Roehampton

Garden rooms designed for Roehampton’s green and tranquil setting. Garden Office Buildings delivers quality craftsmanship across SW15.

Roehampton offers something increasingly rare in London: a genuinely rural feel within easy reach of the city centre. Surrounded by Richmond Park, Putney Heath, and Wimbledon Common, this is one of South West London’s greenest and most peaceful neighbourhoods. The housing ranges from late Victorian and Edwardian family homes on tree lined roads to larger detached properties on what locals know as millionaires’ row, and many homes have substantial private gardens. If you are thinking about a garden room, Roehampton is an ideal setting for one.

We are a family company based in Biggin Hill with over twenty years of experience building bespoke garden rooms across South West London. Whether your property is a handsome Edwardian house near Roehampton Lane or a larger family home backing onto the park, we will design and build a garden office, studio, or gym that sits comfortably in the landscape and meets the quality your property deserves. Our team handles everything from foundations to electrics.

Garden Gym, Roehampton

A university lecturer at the University of Roehampton wanted a home gym where he could combine weight training with his weekend running routine. He lived in a three bedroom Edwardian house on Medfield Street, with a long rear garden backing onto mature trees. The plot was around 18 metres deep and sloped gently away from the house, so we levelled the base and built a 5m x 3.5m garden gym on a solid concrete pad.

Inside, we installed shock absorbent rubber flooring, a half rack with adjustable bench, a built in foam roller storage unit, and a ceiling mounted pull up bar. A large picture window on the rear elevation looks out into the tree canopy, which the client described as his favourite feature. We fitted a split system air conditioning unit, USB charging points along the training wall, and a wall mounted TV for running technique analysis.

He told us the gym has become central to his training, particularly in winter when the dark mornings make outdoor sessions less appealing. He trains five days a week and uses the space for post run stretching and recovery on weekends. Two colleagues from the university have since visited the gym and contacted us about builds at their own homes in Putney and Wimbledon.

Garden Office, Roehampton

A financial adviser who had been renting desk space at a serviced office in Putney wanted to cut her overhead and work from home permanently. She lived in a detached four bedroom house near Roehampton Gate, the entrance to Richmond Park, with a generous west facing garden. We installed a Midi at 4.5m x 3.5m, compact enough to preserve the garden’s open feel while providing a fully equipped professional workspace.

The office features a bespoke L shaped desk with integrated cable management, a small client meeting area with two upholstered chairs, and a wall of built in shelving for files and reference materials. We hardwired ethernet from the house, fitted underfloor heating, and installed external venetian blinds to manage the afternoon sun. The cedar cladding and zinc coloured aluminium windows give the building a refined appearance that suits the property.

She has been working from the garden office for over a year and says the savings on rent have been significant. More importantly, the separation from the house gives her a clear professional boundary, and clients who visit for meetings are always impressed by the space. She has recommended us to several colleagues in her professional network across South West London.

    About Roehampton

Roehampton occupies a far western strip of the London Borough of Wandsworth, sharing its SW15 postcode with neighbouring Putney. The area has a distinctly green and rural character, positioned between Richmond Park to the west, Putney Heath to the south east, and Wimbledon Common further south. Richmond Park’s famous deer herds, ancient oak trees, and the flower filled Isabella Plantation are all on the doorstep. The University of Roehampton, with its picturesque campus set within parkland, is a local landmark. Roehampton Lane and Danebury Avenue provide everyday shopping, and a selection of country style pubs and independent cafes adds to the village atmosphere.

Transport links rely primarily on buses connecting to Putney, Wimbledon, and Hammersmith, where tube and rail services are accessible. The A3 provides fast road connections to central London and the M25. Housing is varied, from late Victorian and Edwardian terraces on pretty tree lined roads to substantial detached family homes and modern apartment developments. Many properties have generous gardens with mature planting, and the area’s green setting means a garden room feels entirely at home. Roehampton borders Putney, Barnes, and Richmond, with Kingston Vale connecting to the A3 and Ham.

“We had looked at several garden room companies and were not impressed until we visited the showroom at Biggin Hill. The difference in quality is immediately obvious. Thick insulated walls, proper windows, and beautiful cladding. Our garden office was installed in under a week and it has become my favourite place to work. I would not change a thing.” – Fiona, Roehampton SW15
