Garden Rooms Stockwell

Bespoke garden rooms tailored to Stockwell’s Georgian terraces and Victorian homes. Garden Office Buildings has been building across SW9 and SW8 for over twenty years.

Stockwell sits in one of South London’s best-connected positions, with the Victoria and Northern lines meeting at Stockwell station and Brixton, Clapham, and Kennington all within walking distance. The area’s Georgian terraces, Victorian townhouses, and converted period homes often come with rear gardens that have real potential, and a bespoke garden room is one of the smartest ways to unlock it.

We’re a family company in Biggin Hill with over twenty years of experience building garden rooms across SW9 and SW8. Stockwell gardens vary quite a bit, from the walled courtyards behind grand houses on Stockwell Park Road to the longer plots behind terraces on Lansdowne Way and the streets off South Lambeth Road. We design every build specifically for your garden’s dimensions, aspect, and access.

Our showroom is the best place to see what sets our buildings apart. Walk through finished models, check the insulation thickness, test the doors and windows, and talk to us about your project without any pressure.

Head to our buildings and prices page for a clear breakdown of costs at every size. We offer free site surveys across Stockwell and will always give you a fixed quote before any work begins.

Garden Gym, Stockwell

A paramedic based at a South London ambulance station wanted a home gym where she could train around her irregular shift patterns. She lives in a Victorian conversion flat on the ground floor of a terraced house on Stockwell Road, with sole use of the rear garden. The plot was around 10 metres deep and narrow, so we designed a compact 4m x 3m build that sits against the rear boundary, leaving room for her small lawn and flower beds.

Inside, we installed high-density rubber flooring, a fold-flat bench press, a set of adjustable dumbbells up to 32kg, and wall-mounted resistance bands. A full-height glazed door lets in morning light from the east-facing garden, and a panel heater keeps the space warm during winter early-morning sessions. We finished the exterior in anthracite composite cladding with matching window frames, giving it a clean, modern look against the traditional brick garden walls.

She told us the gym has made a huge difference to her wellbeing, especially after tough shifts when the last thing she wants is to travel to a commercial gym. The compact design means the garden still feels open, and her upstairs neighbour commented that the building actually improved the look of the shared outdoor space.

Garden Annexe, Stockwell

A retired teacher living in a spacious Victorian semi on Stockwell Park Crescent needed a self-contained garden annexe for her elderly mother, who was moving down from Birmingham. The garden was a good size at 16 metres deep, and we built a Multi at 7m x 4m, configured as a one-bedroom living space with an open-plan kitchen and sitting area, a separate bedroom, and a wet room.

The annexe was fully insulated and fitted with underfloor heating throughout, a compact kitchen with an induction hob, fridge, and sink, and a fully tiled wet room with grab rails. We ran separate water and electrical supplies from the main house, and the building was designed to meet the needs of an older person, with level-access thresholds, wide doorways, and good lighting throughout.

The family told us the annexe has been life-changing. Her mother has her own independent space but is only a few steps from the main house, which gives everyone peace of mind. The build went through Lambeth’s planning process smoothly, and we managed the application on the family’s behalf. Several visitors walking through Larkhall Park have stopped to admire the building from the garden gate.

    About Stockwell

Stockwell sits in the London Borough of Lambeth, bordered by Brixton to the south, Clapham to the west, Kennington to the north, and Vauxhall to the north-east. It’s a neighbourhood with genuine architectural variety: grand Georgian terraces along Stockwell Park Road and Stockwell Park Crescent, solid Victorian townhouses on Lansdowne Way, and a mix of period conversions and purpose-built flats throughout. Several notable council estates, including Lansdowne Green and Stockwell Park, add to the area’s social diversity.

Transport links are among the best in South London. Stockwell station is served by both the Victoria and Northern lines, putting the West End and the City within easy reach. Buses run frequently along Brixton Road, Clapham Road, and South Lambeth Road, and Cycle Superhighway 7 passes directly through the area. Green spaces include Larkhall Park, a well-loved community park with sports pitches and a playground, and Slade Gardens, a smaller pocket park popular with families. Properties here frequently have rear gardens of 10 to 16 metres, many with side access suitable for garden room materials delivery.

    Visit Our Showroom

From Stockwell, our Biggin Hill showroom is around 35 to 40 minutes by car, heading south through Brixton and Streatham before picking up the A21 through Bromley. It’s a simple route, and you can see our Midi, Maxi, and Multi display buildings in person.

“We visited the showroom on a rainy Saturday and it actually helped us test one of the things we cared about most: how warm and dry the buildings stay in bad weather. The answer is completely. Our garden annexe has been in use for six months now and it’s rock solid. The team were honest, professional, and delivered exactly what they promised.” – David, Stockwell SW9
